Author Interview: TF Walsh author of Cloaked In Fur
Today we have author TF Walsh for an interview. I would like to thank her for the time to do the interview. Remember to check out her book Cloaked In Fur just below.
Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
In truth, I didn’t know I wanted to become a writer from a young age. I just enjoyed scribbling stories on pieces of papers and on the inside of book covers when I was young. It was years later when I fell ill with a horrible flu that I pulled out my laptop out and decided to type up some of my ideas. And ever since, I haven’t been able to stop.
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
Probably about 3-4 years ago when I joined a writing group and wrote my first novel. This was when I realized how much I enjoyed the telling tales.
How long did it take to get your first book published?
Hmmm, I’d say over a year, and that includes a major rewrite.
Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?
During the day I work in marketing, actually in social media, so I tend to find that whether at work or home, I’m always online. When I go on vacation, I try to leave the internet behind.
What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?
Cloaked in Fur.
A suspenseful tale of love, betrayal, and sacrifice.
Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?
Crimson Romance.
How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?
Each book and story varies. The first draft of Cloaked in Fur took me several months to write.
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
Right now, I’m working on book 2 of Cloaked in Fur. I’m also half way through a new young adult steampunk / fantasy novel, which is made up of three parts about six characters. It is set in a world filled with witches, steampunk monsters and magic, and at the heart of the story, there’s the struggle to find love.
What genre would you place your books into?
Paranormal romance with strong suspense elements.
What made you decide to write that genre of book?
I’m a huge horror buff, and I grew up watching every monster movie. Now, when I sit down to write a story, it always has to include paranormal or the supernatural.
Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?
While I wrote my first draft of the novel, I grew completely infatuated with Enre, who is Daciana’s ex-lover. I guess when you spend so much time in a character’s head; it’s bound to influence you
How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?
I’ve been dabbling in writing probably my entire life, without realizing I was doing it My biggest inspiration would have to be my dad who is a well known poet and author in Romania.
Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?
Definitely. I have a writing desk right next to the window that overlooks the garden. My mac is in the centre of the desk with books in either side. I always have water and a hot cup of tea next to me, and music is essential. I create different playlists for each book.
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
As this is my debut book, so far yes.
Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?
I find I have to give my book a title before I start writing, but it tends to be changed when I finish the story.
How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
Each character has a backstory, and I try to match their names to where they are from, their family, and even the timing of the story. In Cloaked in Fur, I wanted most of my characters to have names that had a wolf meaning.
Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?
I always create the characters first, get a feel for their personality, what role they’ll play in the story before I name them. I tend to find when I know them well enough; the right name will jump out when I’m researching it. Sometimes for secondary characters, I might have a list of names I’ve set aside and use.
Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?
This is actually a combined effort. I have a rough idea of how the character is, but as I start writing the story, characters tend to take on a life of their own and reveal their quirks and traits along the way. I love it when that happens.
Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")
I’d like to answer this with a simple proverb: ‘The wolf is not always a wolf.’
Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?
I’m half and half between paperback and eBook.
What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?
At the moment, my favorite book is The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I’ve read it twice so far as I await book two.
Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?
I always prefer the book to the movie version, since books go in such much more detail and take us deep into the character’s thoughts.
Your favorite food is?
Halloumi cheese
Your favorite singer/group is?
I’m a bit old school, but I still like Madonna and Prince.
Your favorite color is?
Red
Your favorite Author is?

OPENING OF CHAPTER 4
The phone’s strident ringing woke me up, and I glanced over at the bedside clock blazing
5:13 A.M. Too damn early for anything.
Tempted to dive back under the covers, I checked the caller ID: Connell. Crap. The previous night’s events came pouring back: me turning into a wulfkin outside the full moon, running with the pack all night, collecting my keys from the woods, and ditching Connell again. On top of that, I never retrieved the old books for the elixir. Double crap.
I pushed my legs over the edge of the bed, scrunched the sheet in my fist and answered the call. “Hi.”
“Where are you?” The panic in his voice turned my stomach.
“At home.”
“What happened to you last night?”
My throat dried up as my mind whirred with excuses. “I uncovered something in my research and got stuck into it, not realizing it was past midnight when I checked the clock. I didn’t want to wake you and went straight home. I’m sorry.”
“I suspected you wouldn’t come. Looks like I was right.”
“Come on, Connell, give me a break. I’m working on something majorly important.
When you’re on a case and spend nights in the office, I don’t give you shit about it.”
“That’s not what pisses me off. It’s that you never tell me anything. Send me a message if you’re going to be late or not turn up, anything to let me know what’s going on. It feels like you’re only staying with me on until something better comes along.”
“That’s not true. I only want you.”
Silence.
I lowered my head and stared at the dirt beneath my toenails from the previous night’s run.
“I don’t want to talk about this now,” he said. “We found two more bodies this morning. The victims were located on the opposite sides of the city.” He paused. “Why would a wolf bolt across the city after a kill? They attack in packs, don’t they?”
A shiver rippled down my spine, the possibility of two more dracwulf kills made me furious. There was no convincing myself the attacks weren’t related to the others; I felt the truth in my gut. Worse yet, I wondered whether the dracwulf was simply hungry or territorial, and Sandulf had to know. I flopped onto the bed and curled into a ball.
When I gave no response, Connell continued. “I need you to review the reports from the previous attacks today and visit the new scenes to see if you believe it's the same animal.”
I cringed at the innocent wolves who could lose their lives over Sandulf’s stupidity.
“Your team can test the evidence and see if it’s the same predator without me.”
“We have limited testing resources in this country, so we need your expertise to move things along.”
The way he said “your” sounded full of contempt, and it pained me to hear him talk like that.
“The chief wants a hunting party issued this weekend, preferably with Romania’s Animal Research Institute’s approval. He’s already spoken with your boss, Vasile.”
I climbed up and paced the room, shaking my head. Typical Vasile to agree to anything the cops asked.
“If I could leave you out of this, I would, but I can’t. Trust me, I tried.”
“I appreciate that. Where should we meet?”
“PiaĊ£a Square. Half an hour?”
“I can do that.”
He hung up.
A snarl ripped past my throat at the terrible start to the day. Who could blame Connell for being upset? I’d be livid if he kept avoiding me.
I threw on a pair of Levi’s, boots, and a gray hooded top. The bathroom mirror reflected gray wolf eyes from my recent transformation, and already the silvery color was fading into a darker shade. I pulled every strand of my nest-style hair into a ponytail and rushed outside into the morning twilight.

Excerpt-
The blade bit deep into the soft pale flesh of my wrist and cold pain ran up my arm, creating the feeling of tiny fingertips caressing my skin. Dark blood seeped from the open cut, black drops falling down my wrist and dripping into the white bowl I was leaning over in the girl’s bathroom. It stained the polished porcelain with red streaks that slid down to pool at the bottom around the metallic drain.
I knew it was a big risk to use it while some of the girls were still awake to quench the Thirst, but I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I hoped no one would venture to the bathroom at that moment.
I gulped down the lump in my throat and tried not to cut my lip with my fangs as they extended out, two sharp canines stinging sensitively as the Thirst rolled over me in thick choking waves of acid and frost.
I couldn’t hear anyone approaching from outside, so I took my time. It was midnight; most of the others would either be asleep or trying to steal ice cream from the kitchen.
The smell of my own blood made my fangs hum and the Thirst burst with need. I lifted my wrist to my trembling lips...

“What the hell?” I raised my hand to bang on the door, but a chuckle made me stop and spin around.
“The new girl and already in the principal’s office,” the girl smiled mischievously. “We could be great friends.”
Her eyes shone silver and a chilling howl rang in my mind from far off. Her smile widened and small sharp canines peeked out from her glossed lips. She held out her hand to me, nails painted black.
“Hi I’m Vee, your new best friend,”

The knock at my door was so loud I grumbled and turned over in bed. The room was drowning once again in the faint un-sunlight of the academy and my hair was a mess across the pillows.
Another knock forced me to get up and go answer it. It was when I had my hand on the doorknob that I realized I was only in panties and the shirt from yesterday, but the knocking continued so I opened the door to the person disturbing my sleep.
“You’re late,” Solomon said.
He was dressed in black jeans and a white collar shirt that made his eyes stand out with their faint blue.
“Why is that every time you come to visit me I am half naked?” I asked him. “You got a weird sixth sense that tells you when girls are exposed?”
He rolled his eyes at me.

“As long as I’m here I won’t let anyone hurt you,”
“Oh please Solomon, I don’t need another stalker,” I sighed again and flopped down onto the carpet.
He sat down beside me and looked so much like a teenager I was tempted to imagine him as a normal human boy and I was a normal human girl, like I used to be all those years ago.
“You have a stalker?” he asked and I laughed.
“Don’t get upset I’ll still make time for you,” I gave him a sarcastic smile.

“Take her to the holding cells,” Hawthorn pointed a finger at me.
Two Trackers approached me and each took an arm in their strong grasps. I tried to struggle as my anger got the best of me.
“What the hell?” I looked at the principal. “Am I under arrest?”
“I warned you about attacking a student in this manor,” she told me. “I have no choice but to lock you up and keep you away from the others.”
“I wasn’t attacking him!” I shouted at her as the Trackers took me away. “It is called making out you old witch!”

Yeah, sure (Janine shakes her head). OK, welcome and thanks for making some time to do the interview. I am going to ask a few questions ….
Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?
I have a worst quality? (looks sideways at Piper who is rolling her eyes) well my best quality is my loyalty. I mean, I would never betray a friend or let them down. I do my best to be there for everyone I hold near and dear. (she tries to hug Piper but the vamp girl shakes her head but has a slight smile on her stubborn face)
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
(Vee tilts her head to the side then her eyes brighten) “What I really want for my birthday! Seriously, smelly bath salts and chocolate aint gonna cut it anymore. I wish people knew what I was thinking!”
Piper groans “I thought you liked that chocolate…and I choose not to know what you are thinking for a reason”
Vee laughs.
What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?
Vee frowns. “If I tell you then it won’t be a secret anymore.”
(Janine rolls her eyes and shakes her head again) I see.
What are you most afraid of?
“Seeing my parents again…seeing how sad they are because they think I am dead. A bitten wolf can never go back to a normal human life.”
That sucks.
What do you want more than anything?
“Right now, a good double bacon cheese burger. I am starving!”
Piper is surprised. “You ate like five minutes ago!”
“Shhh, I’m in the middle of an interview” Vee turns back to you.
(Janine clears her throat and continues)
What is your relationship status?
“I am surprisingly single and looking for my prince charming.”
(Janine laughs) Yeah, good luck with that.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
“Vee-tastic! My own unique combo of gothic casual with just a hint of colour.”
“Just a hint?” Piper lifts an eyebrow. “You have a rainbow on your head.”
“Exactly!”
(Janine looks up at the colourful decoration called hair )
How much of a rebel are you?
“A complete one hundred percent rebel. I even broke the rules of the academy I go to for Piper. No one would be brave enough to tick off the principal except me. I even steal!”
“That was only the one time and it was my toothbrush.” Piper tells you, crossing her arms. “And I still don’t know where the hell she hid it.”
(Janine shakes her head again)
What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?
“I didn’t hurt anybody during the full moon this month. It is so hard to control my animal half, I get so scared that I would wake up and my friends will be in pieces around me. I am getting better and learning to control my inner wolf.”
(Janine just lost all color in her face, but pulls on her big girl panties)
What is your idea of happiness?
“Lying in the sun”
(Janine looks at her with a blank look, “That’s it?” rolls her eyes and continues)
What is your current state of mind?
“Seriously? You haven’t noticed yet?”
“Must be a human thing,” Piper stares at you.
(Janine is trying to remember where she put the business card of her shrink)
What is your most treasured possession?
“My lollipops! I absolutely looooove them. OK not treasured possessions, but they still count. I can’t go a day without one. The cherry is my favourite, but lately I have been obsessed with the toffee kind.”
“Focus Vee,” Piper smiles.
“Oh right! Yeah without my lollipops I would go mad. Better I chew on them than someone’s head, you know?”
Yeah, sure. O…k
What is your most marked characteristic?
“Well everyone says it is my personality. I think it is my eyes. Piper says they look like the moon and that is so awesome!”
(Janine stares with a confused look)
What is it that you, most dislike?
“Cramped spaces. I need areas to be open.”
Which living person do you, most despise?
Vee pouts her lips and looks away for a second.
“It’s a long story you don’t want to get into,” Piper whispers at you.
Vee ignored her and tells you “The jacka** that bit me in the first place. If it hadn’t been for him I would still be fully human. I can’t wait to find him and show him exactly what he has created...”
(Janine, “Where the hell did I put that card?”)
What is the quality you most like in a man?
“His shoulders hubba hubba. As well as having a sense of humour and I do love those bad boys!”
(Janine give Vee a huge smile, Oh yeah the bad boys)
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
“Her fashion sense, and if she doesn’t have one then I will lead her into the right direction.”
“You mean force her into dresses instead of letting her have a damn pair of jeans…” Piper grumbles.
Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
“Wolverine! Grrrrr….” She smiles with sharp canines.
(Janine looks at them and shivers)
Which living person do you most admire?
“I haven’t told anybody this but…it is Solomon. Yes, he is a full vampire so he isn’t exactly ‘living’ and sometimes way too serious for my liking, but he saved my best friend and everyone else in the academy. He is a hero, Piper as well and if it weren’t for them we would all have been exposed to the world. Supernaturals must stay secret. That is what is most important to me, my friends and my new world. Otherwise it would be Sarah Jessica Parker, I must have her shoes!”
Piper chuckles. “We watched Sex and The City last night.”
“I love your shoes too,” Vee glances at your feet. “What size are you?”
(Janine looks down at her shoes and frowns)
“Time to go!” Piper jumps up and grabs Vee before the wolf girl can snatch your shoes.

Today our spotlight author spotlight is on South African author Leah D.W and her book The Runaway’s Secret. Be sure to check out the character interview later with one of the characters from this book! But first let’s get to know Leah D.W !
I am 21 years old and currently a journalism student at my local university. I live in South Africa in a town called Bloemfontein with my family and two beloved dogs. I have been writing since the age of 13 and my first published work is a short horror story titled Dracula’s Mistress. I am busy working on a number of novels and I am an editor/proof reader for Bayou Brew Publishing.
I love writing in the genres of paranormal romance, fantasy fiction and historical fiction and I am a proud bookworm with a mountain of reads stacked up in my room. I am also studying criminology in order to be able to write mystery horrors.
The book that has been published is Unnatural, a collection of paranormal short stories that are full of action, adventure and amazing characters.
I also have short stories in various anthologies. Love Kills, Unhappily Ever After; fairy tales with a twist and Soul Games. My novel The Runaway’s Secret, a vampire paranormal romance, will be released in May.

Without paying attention to my surroundings, I turn to my left to walk toward the row closer to the door where a seat is available. I take a step and collide with a hard body, almost toppling me over on the ground for the second time in less than an hour. A strong hand grips me firmly by the forearm. My body stiffens and my breath catches in my throat. It’s as if I can’t move besides yanking my arm free without looking up to see who I collided with.
“Are you all right?” he asks me in a deep and calm voice.
My eyes wander from my red Converse to his dark boots. I have to calm down. I’m being ridiculous. Calm down. I take a deep breath and look up slowly. Long, muscled legs in beat up dark blue jeans, an old black leather jacket open over a dark grey V-neck sweater that showcases an impressive tall body with broad shoulders and finally, longish and messy black hair, perfect straight nose, full lips, high cheekbones and expressive soft dark eyes that lock with my bluish-greyish ones. He looks older with his goatee perfectly trimmed. A perfect hot mess many girls would say. I’m just intimidated by this stranger, though.
“I’m fine,” I reply, my voice even. I push away some of my untamed locks and curse my auburn frizzy hair that is always all over the place.

There is something wrong with the marsh of Burke Flats. Accidents happen here, people are dragged into the marsh never to be seen again. William Stiles and his SPIRIT team is send in to investigate this strange phenomenal. As paranormal investigators it’s their job to find the problem and get rid off it. But William is having trouble trying to figure out why so many lives have been claimed by the marsh.
That is until he meets Anna Neuville and her friend Blake Trenton. William discovers that he shares a rare gift with the two and soon the team is upon the hunt for something very evil, something malevolent. They stumble on a secret as old as the town, and when the origin of this secret is reveal, William and Anna has to deal with the sins of this town.
Wow, wow and double wow. SPIRIT one was an absolute nerve wrecking ride, but SPIRIT two is even worse. You’re nerves are flying all over the place and you are really scared to turn the page and see what the hell happens next. Brilliant plot that will keep you clued to the pages and finish this mystery with the SPIRIT team.
I loved the chemistry between William and Anna and found myself smiling as their relationship grew into hot passion. Anna courage grabbed my heart and I enjoyed seeing her take on the evil of this town. William’s was pretty funny at first. As Anna reveals to him another world, he is scared and uncertain. But as the story progress he rip’s out the soldier demeanor and start kicking butt. Blake was an absolute treat and I found myself laughing a few times. Zander from SPIRIT one also shows up to help out, and I found myself missing the characters of the first book. As always he was the one keeping cool and helped kick butt. Of course with two leaders, Zander and William at first doesn’t see eyes to eye but soon teams up for one hell of an adventure.
I would highly suggest to all to start reading this series. I hope that the next edition is going to be even more epic. Well done to the author and a well deserve five stars.

Island Pond, Vermont was every child's wonderland, with looming mountains and small towns nestled in the valleys, its simple lifestyle gave Ms. Gray the ability to let her imagination run wild, thus creating her unique style of writing, where the stories speak for themselves.
Big city living, in her teenage years to the present allowed her to harvest that energy and creativeness to bring to life some of the most unique characters, such as Michael Raven and Julian Deveraux.
Although Vampires are her most used basis for characters and settings, Ms. Gray's novels also venture into those of other supernatural realms, with ghosts, witchcraft and werewolves coming into play in several of her upcoming manuscripts.
Look for future novels, the next five of the Vampire Legacy, and an upcoming film on Raven to put this determined mom into the spotlight.
