authorinterview

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I think I did, I just didn’t know it. I’ve always made up stories in my mind. I wanted to raise horses. I have done office work, interior decorating, but this is what I was meant to do.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

When I finished my first book and my editor liked it.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

I did it on my own, with a lot of great people.

Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

No, I write full time.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

Corporate Ties is my latest book. It a steaming hot, mystery romance. Olivia is smart, beautiful and driven. When her friend disappears she’s determined to find out why.

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

I self publish.

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

About four months give or take.

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

I write fantasy and paranormal. But there will be several Silken Ties novels and right now I’m finishing another romance…Western Escape.

What genre would you place your books into?

These are contemporary romances.

What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I challenged myself to do it. To write something different than I’d published before. Find a new audience.

Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?

My books always feature strong female lead characters so I love them. And my favorite is always the one I’m writing about now.

How long have you been writing, and who or what inspired you to write?

I’ve been writing over four years now. Five this April actually. I just couldn’t find anything I really wanted to read, it seemed like they were all the same. So I decided I try to write one. It’s worked out very well.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

I sit in the living room with my laptop. I have the television on. I write every single day during the week, but take the weekends off to let my brain recharge.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

Yes, you have to have thick skin in this game for sure. Not everyone is going to love what you do.

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

Most of the time I have a title in my head, but sometimes I have to write the book before it becomes clear.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

Names usually just come to me. They have to fit the character in my mind. If it’s historical or country specific I search for a name.

Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?

I do it as I go along.

Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

The main character I normally know in my head right away. That’s part of the process when you start a book. Who are they, where are they, why are they the way they are. After that the plot decides who these people are and then I form each of them as I write.

Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")

No, not usually.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

I love having a print book that I’ve written in my hand, but it’s so easy to have eBooks now on my phone or tablet.

What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?

I have so many. I don’t have as much time to read as I used to. I love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings. Epic fantasy, but I love thrillers and adult ones too, depending on my mood.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

Well I mentioned Lord of the Rings, but some things aren’t done well. They can’t get the detail right or it doesn’t match what you see with your mind.

Your favorite food is?

Pasta

Your favorite singer/group is?

Again, so many. I love Maroon 5 right now.

Your favorite color is?

Blue

Your favorite Author is?

Anne Rice.
