Character Name and Bio: Hi there! I’m Alexandra Jane Harper, but just call me Allie—everyone does. Well, everyone except my dad. He and my mom were both teachers and I guess the apple really must fall close to the family tree because I’m a teacher myself.

I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago with my parents and my older brother Ryan. I had a normal middle-class life and lived in a normal middle-class neighborhood. My parents let me take ballet lessons until I hit high school, where I joined the swim team and ran track.

When it came time to look at colleges my folks wanted me to consider schools nearby, but hello!—I was so done with endless winters full of snow, ice and freezing rain! So I took a pass and only applied to schools that promised sunshine and warmth—and discovered guys actually take off their shirts in February in Arizona!

Anyway, that’s how I ended up in Tempe and rooming with Reese Fielding, who is possibly the best friend ever. She’s seen me through some crap times in the past few years, well, her and our other friend Maddie! And Jake; don’t know what I would have done without him, either.

Oh Jeez, check the time. Gotta run! Jake will be here soon; we’re going to a concert tonight. Not sure it’s such a great idea, asking him to come along, but I haven’t seen him in a while and everybody else was already busy. Oh well, no need to be nervous, It’s just a concert after all. Not like I asked him out on a date!

Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?

Describe myself…You know most women consider that a trick question, right? We either come across sounding conceited or fishing for compliments. We’ll just say I’m average. My best quality? Ben was always crazy about my ass. Jake likes assets a little north of that. I’ve always thought a woman’s best feature was her smile. Lame…I know!

What is your biggest secret; something no one knows about?

Who me? No drama or skeletons here, sorry! I’m an open book.

What are you most afraid of?

I’ve been through some serious crap in the past couple of years—I was afraid of being on my own, terrified of raising Trey alone, concerned about negative gossip affecting him—but I managed to survive and keep my son’s life as normal as possible. What really scares the hell out of me, though? Gotta be those great big cockroaches I find out in the garbage can! Did you know those suckers can fly?

What do you want more than anything?

World peace, a balanced budget, an end to global warming. But more than anything? A houseful of babies! Guess I’ll have to settle for world peace.

What is your relationship status?

I’m a widow. Wait! I hate that word, makes me sound about eighty-seven years old. Let’s just say unmarried.

How would you describe your sense of fashion?

I’m a kindergarten teacher, remember? My fashion is anything I can wear to chase five-year-olds on the playground and then sit on the floor in during story time. Nothing glamorous, I assure you!

How much of a rebel are you?

Ha! Taught Miley everything she knows! Once I even wore my jeans to school on Tuesday when everybody knows it’s only allowed on Friday lol!

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

There are a lot of cliché answers out there…the day I graduated from college, or married the love of my life, or the birth of my beloved child. But for me? Has to be not killing that child before he graduated high school! Now, that was an accomplishment!

What is your idea of happiness?

Depends what day of the week it is. On school days I’m happy if I make it through the day without some kid’s snot on my clothes. But if Saturday rolls around and I can skip the housework for a few hours with a good book, I’m in heaven!

What is your current state of mind?

I try not to dwell in the past and just look to the future. For that I’m hopeful. Optimistic. Hopefully optimistic—I guess that about covers it!

What is your most marked characteristic?

I guess I’d say my dimple because it’s right there on my face. Hard to miss that.

What is it that you most dislike?

I hate my freckles! They’re mostly hidden by my clothes, and more noticeable when I’ve been in the sun, of course, but they’re so there!

What is your greatest regret?

Back to that houseful of kids, that’s a biggie.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

These days it’s hard to trust any man I haven’t known for a while, but a man who treats a woman with respect—number one crowd-pleaser right there!

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

A good girlfriend knows you with all your faults and loves you anyway. She knows when you need a cookie and when only a glass of wine will help!

Which living person do you most admire?

I’ve always been really impressed with my father-in-law Bentley. Not only is he a practicing attorney, but he raised three sons on his own. Quite an accomplishment there.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Remember those freckles I just told you about? Yeah.

What is your motto?

There are some great leaders in our history; and this guy has some pretty profound thoughts to his name. Here’s one of my favorites: A person’s true character is shown in what he does when he thinks nobody’s watching ~ paraphrased from Abraham Lincoln
